The Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center is a great place to learn about the Everglades and the Southwest Florida environment.
Polka Dottie Batfish is the mascot of the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center. She is modeled after the polka dot batfish, a species found in Rookery Bay waters. She is a great photo op for visitors!
The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve encompasses 110,000 acres on the western edge of the Everglades.
Rookery Bay Reserve offers 2-hour guided kayak trips, a wonderful way to get an upclose view of nature.
The Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center features aquariums, interactive exhibits, children's exhibits, an art gallery, walking trails, picnic areas, gift shop and more.
The walking trails at the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center include observation platforms over Henderson Creek.

National Estuaries Day Free Admission

The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is hosting a National Estuaries Day celebration with free admission to the Environmental Learning Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The annual event includes staff-narrated boat tours (bus transportation provided to the boat 15 minutes away), introductory 30-minute kayaking trips, stand-up paddleboarding demos on Henderson Creek, Estuary Encounter experience, live animal presentations, crafts, Junior Scientist lab activities and more. Additionally, a food truck will be on site during lunch hours.

A special feature of this year's event is the "Giants of the Everglades" photography exhibit, which will be on display in the art gallery. Guests will have an opportunity to meet the photographer, Dennis Goodman, and enjoy his presentation "The Story Behind the Images" at 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
Activities are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign up begins when doors open at 9 a.m. Age restrictions may apply, please see website for more information: www.rookerybay.org/national-estuaries-day.
A limited number of VIP Express tickets are available for $25, with proceeds benefiting the Friends of Rookery Bay. VIP registration is required and opens Aug. 30, at www.rookerybay.org/calendar.
